Is pH Balance Actually Important?
Yes. And here’s why.
1) Be Safe
If you are using either a salt based pool producing chlorine or a chlorine based tablet pool, then your pH needs to be correct. If pool water is not balanced correctly then the chlorine sanitizer won’t be working at full strength killing germs and bacteria.
2) Stay Comfortable
Your water balance needs to be correct or it will affect your skin and eyes. The pH should be neither too acidic nor basic.
3) Increase Your Pool’s Life
An imbalanced pool can corrode the liner, ladders and hand rail – as well as other equipment like the pump.
To make sure your water is balanced, test your pH levels daily if possible. Once you’ve measured your water’s ph level you can adjust the ph by adding HTH pH minus or HTH pH plus depending on which product is needed. Before adding these products to your pool use the recommended dosage rates on the label to determine the correct amount based on the current pH reading of your water. Also make sure you’re wearing protective eyewear and rubber gloves. The bottle’s cap can be used as a measuring cup. Pour the required amount of pH product into the cap and then scatter it over the pool’s surface. Try to distribute it across the water if you can. Replace the cap tightly and you’re done. Make sure to keep the circulation pump running when you add the product. After two hours, check the pH again and repeat the treatment if necessary. It’s that simple!
